Welcome to your child's last year at Ecole St Luke. I hope your summer was phenomenal and that everyone is ready and eager to begin learning all they need to for a successful year.
Each week I try my best to update the BLOG on Mondays so that parents and students know what to expect for the week. It is also possible for an update sometime during the week, this is to get students used to checking online. Homework is not placed here, but dates for quizzes and tests are. Students are given one week to prepare for tests and cramming is not encouraged. There will be a detailed letter coming home soon as to my expectations and routines.

This week in learning:
Students should have accepted the invitation to Google classroom by now. Check your Gmail and bookmark this page for easier reference;

MATH: we begin with an evaluation to see what students remember from grade 5. This is just for me to see where I would put emphasis on and what needs more work, less work, review, etc. Then we look at big numbers Module 2. The textbook is accessible through google classroom.

SCIENCE: We begin the year with a unit on Forensics, Crime and evidence. We have a field trip already booked for YOUTHLINK in October and more information will be forthcoming.

ES: this year we study democracy and the beginnings of our Government. The first chapter is on what democracy means. I encourage parents to speak to their children about democracy , how it functions and our role in it. There will be a portion of current events attached to the Social Studies curriculum.

FLA: we begin with a lot of spoken French at this time, having the students turn their brains back on in French. Speaking French in class is my number one rule. I believe the more they speak, the easier their reading is, then comprehension and writing follow suit.

ELA: we are writing a letter to our future selves to be put away until June for our Farewell.

Religion: our class is in charge of the opening mass at the church. We will be going through the liturgy, practicing songs and choosing readers. We are also up first on the intercom for morning prayers, so students need to complete theirs by Friday.

I look forward to working with you this year to make your child's last year at St Luke a memorable one. Students are permitted to email me directly with questions they have about homework.
