This week in Learning:
FLA: students are still working on crime scenes for a presentation. This is a lengthy assignment and time should not be wasted in class. Bring in boxes and materials to put together your diorama, if that's what  you plan on doing.

ELA: continuing to read Vermeer and write news articles. To help students have a better grasp on the latter, they should be reading some news articles in the paper. Chapters 9 & 10 tonight. 2 paintings and paragraphs due Friday sent to me via gmail.

SCIENCE: today we looked at fabrics, weave and solubility and stretchiness. Tomorrow we will look at images of different fabrics under a microscope. The last part of our unit is soil testing. After that there will be a test on October 29th. Start studying now.

MATH: Mme Reimer began the unit on patterns. We  will delve further and also look at algebra or unknown factors in an equation. Here is a video you can watch for further explanation.

SOCIAL: we begin chapter 2, which is democracy in action. How can we as citizens change the world...or at least our community. Students should have a look at the Charter of Rights and Freedoms to see how all decisions in law are made.

Hope your long weekend was restful and filled with family gatherings.

This week in Learning:
MATH: today the students are studying and the unit test is tomorrow. Next we will look at patterns in numbers

SCIENCES: we will study the different properties of materials (fabric) and see how they can be studied as evidence.

SOCIAL: candidates will speak tomorrow for the student elections and tell us why we should vote for them...then we vote. Non-candidates will also do their speech tomorrow (how does democracy fit into my life) at the end of the day.

FLA: we will begin a new project which fits with our science forensics unit. Students will be asked to put together a crime scene (à la fairy tale) and incorporate all the elements of evidence studied so far. Quiz on expressions avoir et être Thursday.

ELA: we continue with Vermeer. Reading chapters and answering comprehension questions. This week students will be given the opportunity to write their first news article.

RELIGION: today we sort the clothing for "Pass it along clothing". This is part of the corporal acts of mercy that the church asks of us.

ART: we will learn how to draw one point perspective to then draw a scene, like Vermeer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wDZNup32CY
Sketchbooks are due October 30th

HEALTH: how to take care of ourselves spiritually, mentally and physically.

PHYS ED tomorrow...no gym strip, limited participation

Upcoming: pizza day and theme day: Book character... Thursday

Students will be receiving their vaccines this Thursday. They are asked to wear short sleeve t-shirts so that the nurses can access their upper arm. Bring in music, stuffy (for the vaccine only) whatever to help you feel better, but it only lasts 15 seconds. Mind over matter works best. See the source image

Friday, October 4, 2019

I am finding that students in this class seem to think that homework is an option...
English stories were due last Friday and I am still missing 2. French comic books were due Monday of this week and I am still missing 7. Today we were correcting ELA comprehension questions of the novel study and I noticed several students without answers. Please take the time to speak to your children about the importance of handing in assignments. Without them, I am not able to do progress reports and let you know where your children are in terms of their learning. I cannot assess what I do not see.

For Monday: Bring in an ordinary object to explain how it is a work of art.
