Please wear a short sleeve shirt for the vaccines. If you get cold, you can have a hoodie or sweater but they need to get at your arm. Merci

 This week in learning:

MATH: we continue to work on review. During PT conferences I will discuss areas that your child may need work on in math based on the grade 5 diagnostic evaluation. We will be working on multiples and factors this week.

SCI: we continue with forensics: shoeprint and foot impressions

ES: finishing off the intro and Chapter 1 on democracy principles and how citizens can become involved. See the GC for the rubric on current events. Students should have written when their  date to present is. Do not watch the news more than 3 days in advance so that is is current.

FLA: we will hopefully finish with the oral presentations this week. Did your child tell you what Mme's #1 rule is? Speaking French is the reason you sent your child to this school and it is the most important part of an immersion education. Some are on track, some still need reminders. After oral presentations we will work on some grammar to help them with their French skills.

ELA: we continue with Chasing Vermeer. Students can take books home to complete readings and comprehension questions for class discussions.

RELIGION: we go to mass on Wednesday so we have been practicing that and they are doing an amazing job. Will will then look at How we find God, beginning with creation.

TO NOTE:

I have both volunteers for walking to the church on Wednesday. Thank you Dominika and Amir. We will leave shortly after 9h10 am

Thursday evening and all day Friday is Parent Teacher conferences. Make sure that you sign up on conference manager asap.

Thursday eve is the Parent Council Bar BQ as well.

This is an exciting year for you and I hope that we can accomplish many great things together. Remember to check in a few times a week on this BLOG for updates and reminders, but mostly on Monday evenings to see what we will be learning.

Reminders:
Nurse forms for vaccinces which will be Sept 27th in the a.m.
Demographic sheets. These are super important for the office to know our numbers and who to contact in case of emergency.
ALL students should have all their materials now so they do not get further behind; this includes a small bin for their binders and textbooks and most importantly an AGENDA to write down daily homework and reminders.
Gym is Days 1 and 3 and DPA is Day 2
CCC and copains d'apprentissage will be day 4
Mme's #1 Rule: Parlez en français!

This week in Learning:
Math: a new curriculum this year, but unfortunately we do no yet have the ressources to begin. I will just do some review from last year to keep your math skills fresh.
Science: our first unit is Forensics and evidence. We will be looking at questionning and observations, such as from eye witnesses.
Etudes Sociales: we begin with the general concept of government. Speak to  your children about all terms of government.
FLA: we are starting with all oral work to get back on track. Students will be asked to do quick one minute speeches (practice) and another one that will be 2-3 minutes long (marked). I want your children to be comfortable speaking in French from the get go. We will also do lots of verbs and grammar this year to help with writing skills.
ELA: right now students are writing a letter to their future self for the farewell, but then we will go into a novel study which focuses on Figures of Speech.
Religion: Mass prayer of gratitude is due Sunday night by 6pm so that I may print them out. Send them to my Gmail. We need to give these to administration by the 14th.
We are in charge of the opening mass on September 20th at 10am at St Luke's church. I will be putting a call out for volunteers to walk with us there just before the date. After that the unit "we come to know God". Our Faith theme this year is "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift". We will talk a lot about gratitude and how to show it.
ART: T-shirt on YOU
MusicFirst up, the songs for the mass. Please practice, the links will be on GC.
Next...research of an original francophone song to present on the intercom for the school's music program.
Health: new program, not sure yet where we will begin. We have a consultant coming for our first staff meeting to help us with all the new curriculum. However one of the areas being taught is finances. We have a system in class whereby if students do their job, they get paid in tokens. The task is to save tokens for a reward later. Tokens can also be taken away if students do not do their jobs. This was really effective last year.
CTF: first project will be a group project on Food Trucks. More information to come.

Lastly, Welcome to my class...I am looking forward to working in tandem with you. This BLOG is for both parents and students to keep organized.
