Bon lundi!
So far I have only 2 volunteers for Feb 19th 100th day of school. Please consider spending a morning with us.
Middle Ages Illustration

Upcoming events:
This Friday is spirit day. The theme is medieval.

Our and Mme Chantal's classes are  responsible for the Ash Wednesday celebration on Feb 11th. If you will be here and if  your child wants to read, practicing at home will be a must. Decisions will be made next week.

At the end of February will be in-line skating and we will need volunteers for that also, to help the students tie up their skates and put on equipment.

As you have probably heard, there is a canteen at school now. It is not mandatory that students buy from there, but every once in a while if they want an extra snack, the menu is on the school website. Students are responsible for their money.

Evaluations in Math and Social Studies this week, as well as vocabulary in French on the parts of the body. Also up-coming, an evaluation on writing. I will include a list of frequent words that we have been using, in tomorrow's message.

Library day this Thursday.

Happy Tuesday. I was at the dentist yesterday keeping my teeth in good health, so the Blog is a day late.

To begin with...Calling all Volunteers...
February 19th is going to be our 100th day of school and we will have a special day to commemorate it. Please consider volunteering as we will have several stations, needing several hands. I am giving  you a lot of notice in the hopes that you can help out. Please email me and let me know if you can be of help. Also in this regard, is there anyone who can cut out some glasses for me ahead of time (from cardboard, already traced, just need cutting, can be done at home while watching the Bachelor? Please email me. Merci!

This week is a short week so let's make the most of it!
Français: we are working on the sound "in". Another nasal as in the word "lapin". The "n" is not pronounced. We are also working on sentences, winter activities, and listening to and following instructions.
Math: Continue to practice the numbers up to 100. Find a 100 chart online and have your child name them as they count. Plus keep adding and subtracting things up to 15 (ex: 15 - 8 = ___)
Science: we have an evaluation on construction tomorrow and we are presenting the bedrooms that they built. Practice saying: voici ma chambre...voici mon lit....j'ai construit mon lit avec du carton etc.
Etudes Sociales: we just finished with Urbaine et Rurale. An evaluation is forthcoming. We will begin to discuss how to make the best decision in any given circumstance.
Religion: we will be working with the grade 4 class soon and start a project on the Chrome books on a Saint. This week, we will learn how to log onto the chromebooks (with  Mme Marie-Claude's grade 3 class) and go from there. Students may want to discuss the name of a saint with you, and what makes a person a saint. Students may continue to share their baptismal stories.

This is another call for the "2 stars and a wish" sheet as well as the evaluations that were sent home to be signed and then returned to school. These requests are part of the Health mark and fall under the category of organization. Please check with your child if they are on the list of "to be returned".
We have worked on the sound "oi" (wa) and "eau" "au" (o) last week.  This week we look at the sound "on", as in "cochon".
Math: we will continue to count by 10's up to 100; count by 2's up to 60; and students must know their numbers up to 100. If I ask them to write "cinquante quatre", they need to know to write 54.
Science: we will finish off construction...any boxes coming in? (I have yet to receive any) and we are working on l'hiver/winter. How do we know it is winter.
Religion: we have started talking about baptism. Talk to your child about their baptism; signs and symbols etc.
Are you still reading every night? I only have about 8 students lining up to exchange books every morning...!!!

Welcome to a brand new year of blogging and fun adventures.
Included here are the vocabulary words for the next few weeks.  We are working on parts of the body and learning some new sounds. The latest = "oi" which in French is pronounced "wa".
I have looked at the returned sheets of "Two Stars and a Wish" that students were supposed to return after Parent-Teacher conferences.  There are still a few missing so duplicate sheets will be sent home tonight.

In Math we are learning to count by 10's: for now up to 60
dix      vingt      trente     quarante     cinquante      soixante

In Social Studies we are looking at Canada. Talk to your child about which provinces they have been to.

In Science we are still looking at construction...another box would be needed for the next activity (cereal or cracker size) and we are also talking about the season of winter = l'hiver.
Keep reading every night.
