Image result for technology

There are computers, iPads, consoles, my phone
Made by humans so we don’t feel alone
You can use them for gaming, Google, go-noodle
They are also made to work, search and doodle.

I use them for gaming
You use them for creating
You plug the device in the wall
Then charge it for your call.

The tech can be used for anything
Everyone’s into something
Video games, there’s a thousand and one
Kids love screens more than the sun.

Tech is used in buildings and cars
Technology will take humans to mars
Yes, tech takes us to outer space
Tech is always in your face.

Miles

Fun afternoon today with the songs and poems, about everything from rubrics to poop...(and not from the boys!) Will try to upload a song as well.

This week in Learning:
FLA: congratulations to "Les Guimauves préférées" who were the champs of Hockey Lecture season 1! It came down to a shoot out with Sophie beating Daniel to the answer. Well done les élèves. Today they will be given a post reading comprehension to see if the hockey lecture strategies helped their comprehension. Next up, Story writing...get your thinking caps on.

ELA: presentations of poems and songs to begin with and then we look at Story writing in English as well. Lots of writing coming up.

MATH: we will finish with angles this week and the test will be next Tuesday on this unit. Studying should begin now.

SCI: we continue with experiments with air and water (as air acts as a fluid so therefore it acts like water). Science Fair is coming up soon, hopefully everyone is on tract with that as well.

SOC: we continue with the Iroquois learning how they governed. We have booked Tpet on Feb 11th and may need a volunteer or two. Information will be forthcoming.

ART: sketchbooks are due this Thursday and Spirit animals will be due next day 3 (Feb 5th)

RELIGION: we are exploring the clergy this week and how they discern their vocation.

CTF: last Friday students met in the Dragons' Den to pitch their product ideas and to ask for money from Parent Council to go forward in their business. Some companies were awesome and  knew their numbers well. Others have until end of this week to propose in writing how much money they need in order to go forward (include where they found the materials, how much for one unit, how much money to borrow in total). As a side note, unfortunately, not all students were respectful to Mme Browne's guest teacher. We have had many conversations regarding behavior with guest teachers and the message is not sinking in. Perhaps a chat from parents would help.

This week:
Lacrosse. The Roughnecks are here to teach lacrosse on Wednesday at 1h15.
No school Friday... PD day for teachers

This week in Learning:

FLA: we have semi-finals for Hockey lecture with les Guimauves préférés vs On n'existe pas. Then another semi-final with Les 5 amigos vs les Jambons. So far the matches have been quite even with a few shoot outs. Bon travail les amis.

ELA: we will finish the poetry unit this week. That means those doing the book choose their best 3, a title page and their quatrain recited. Those choosing the song, need to be ready to perform at the end of the week. Quiz on poetry next week Wednesday the 29th.

MATH: we continue on angles. At this time students should be able to name them, measure them and draw them. Next up, we put the protractors away and look at the angles in a triangle.

SCIENCE: we begin our unit on Air and Aerodynamics. Students should be able to see how air works, what  its properties are and how it is used for flight. We will be doing several experiments and students should keep up to date on them.

SOCIAL: we continue on the Iroquois. Students are looking at maps (types and how to read them), and then we look at the roles of the Iroquois people.

RELIGION: we are studying the way we use our gifts that have been given to us at birth and baptism. We will study the lay people, the consecrated and the clergy. Tomorrow I am picking up scrapbooks and journals. See previous post.

ART: last Friday students made Wampums.

More time will be given to finish their spirit animals later. Sketchbooks are due Jan 30.

THIS WEEK:
Skiing tomorrow. Please dress for the weather, including tuques, mitts or gloves, snowpants, extra socks and goggles if you wish. (Winsport has no goggles but they have helmets).  If you wish to bring your own helmet that will be allowed. Also bring:
water bottle
backpack
lunch and snacks
It looks like its going to be an amazing day!

Maybe not 13...but it feels like 13!

Thank you to the kids for their help with indoor recess this past week...definitely one of the worst in our history. Here's to brighter skies and warmer temps.

I have been noticing that some students have misplaced or lost some of their supplies. Please check with your children if they still have or need the following:
scissors
glue (mine keeps disappearing)
pencils
lead for pencils
erasers
markers

Thanks for your attention to this. Also in relation, Mme Berko has mentioned that some students do not have a duotang for  music. Please check with your child to see if they were on that list.

ELA: continue with poetry. Today was a Tanka...ask your kids what it is. Due tomorrow

MATH: today we began measuring the angles. Practice should be done at home as well. Homework for tomorrow: p136 #1,2,3, 4,,6,7 (pas d). I have sent the chapter through the gmail, let me know if you did not get it.

SCIENCE: we will present planets next class and test on Astronomie will be returned for signature.

Needed!
We are in need of Kleenex tissue as there were some runny noses in the fall and we are down to 2 boxes. If everyone could please send one box, we should be good until the end of the year. Thank you in advance.

Also, we are in need of lined paper. We have a ton of graph paper but have gone through quite a bit of lined paper to date. If you have some at home, please send in. Again thanks for helping out.

Happy New Year to one and all. I hope that your holidays were filled with rest and relaxation. The students looked a little tired today...like they needed a nap...hopefully by the end of the week we are all back to our routines...me included.

This week in Learning:
FLA: Hockey lecture. A reading comprehension competition to improve reading skills in French. We are also exploring homophones.

ELA: we began our poetry unit today. Here is my autobiographical written by the students (so I guess it wouldn't be autobiographical then, just biographical...they were kinder than other years!)

At the end of the unit, students have the option of re-writing lyrics to a song and performing it or writing a poetry book. Homework tomorrow...students' autobiographical

MATH: we will begin angles and by Wednesday all students need a protractor. They cannot do this unit without one. They range in price at Walmart from 2-5$ and it was on the list of school supplies at the beginning of the year. Decimal tests went home to be signed and returned.

Etudes Sociales: Mme Reimer is back and will be teaching this unit on the Iroquois confederacy. There are still some Greek tests that need to be returned signed. Merci

SCIENCE: test on astronomy is this Friday. The next unit up is Air and Aerodynamics. We begin with air but there is not a good break between the two units, so we learn them together. It is a difficult unit so nightly review is very important.

RELIGION: We learn how to respond to God's call to Service.

ART: Sketchbooks will be due at the end of this month. Students are working on texture.

GYM: begins tomorrow...have your Gym strip!

Coming up: MADD Science Jan 22
                    Skiing COP Jan 21
