 This week in learning

Tomorrow we are off to Youthlink  students should have a water bottle, snack and lunch, a pencil and their detective notebook. Absolutely no gum is permitted. We leave at 9am

Math: we continue with input output machines which will lead us into algebra. 

Social studies: chap 1 test was today, next we see exactly how democracy works and look at our constitution.

FLA: students are writing a comprehension test today to see if they can read grade 6 level French texts. Then we will look at daily 5 strategies to help with comprehension and have a post test. 

ELA: Vermeer novel study will be due at beginning of next week. This includes a news article and a free option assignment.

Religion: students are working on teaching a topic from our text that helps us know God better. We will present before the end of this week.

Music: we are almost finished our head to head competition. Research assignments should be done and ready to present.

Students should be checking on how 

« jacket racket » is coming along. Check with your teacher liaison. Have you brought any items yourselves?

Thursday is orange and  black day

This week in Learning: 

MATH: tests will be going home as soon as all students have written it. They are to signed and returned to school. This lets me know that you, the parents, know how your child is doing at the end of units.

ES: we will look at the election results and move onto our own class election. Candidates will make their speeches on the 21st at 9am. Unit test on the 25th of October, start studying now.

FLA: we will have non candidate speeches about democracy this week. 

ELA: we are completeing Vermeer and will move onto a news article about the theft. Learning how to write a news article is part of the PAT's so pay close attention. Also think of an optional project to go with the novel study. Due date coming soon.

SCIENCE: this week will focus on the crime sent to us by YOUTH link, so that it may be solved when we attend the field trip. 

Religion notebooks due this Friday. 10 mini assignments and 2 reflections of liturgies.

ART: sketchbooks were due last Friday and I have a huge list of students who did not turn it in. I give students one month to complete an element of art before handing it in. I am recognizing that some students are not paying attention to due dates.

MUSIQUE: research on singer/group and lyrics is due and as soon as we finish the head to head competition we will present them.

Update:

Remember that Picture day is Tuesday 


We also are having a liturgy for St Luke Feast day that morning put on by Mme Elaine and Mme Suzanne's grade 4 class. 

Chasing Vermeer novel should now be finished and we will move onto post reading activities.

Speeches for non candidates will begin on the 19th, and candidates will speak in the gym on the 21 at 9am. Voting will take place on Friday for Student council.

A letter to parents should be coming this afternoon with respect to a Field trip.

This week in Learning:

MATH: unit test this Friday. We are reviewing in class this week 

FLA: speeches for democracy or candidacy shouldnow be in the practicing phase. We are looking at the 20th for candidates to make their speeches and 19th for democracy or non candidates

ELA: continuing Vermeer. We are nearing the end of the novel and will be learning how to write a news article that goes with the novel. Quiz on figures speech coming soon as well

SCIENCE: finishing finger prints, moving onto fibers and soil tests

ES: finishing chapter one this week. There will be unit test next week and then we will move into democracy in action.

Religion: We come to know God through faith and reason

ART: sketchbooks due the 15th

 Onomatopeia due next day 2

Week update:

 Math test for unit 2 has been set for October 15th

We will also be voting for our mayor, counselor and school trustee that day.

If students do not hand in assignments on their due date, it is their responsibilty to hand it in once it is complete. After a week of extra time, a note will go home stating what the child has not handed in. Time management is key in grade 6.

We will have a thanksgiving liturgy this Friday at 1h30 pm. If  you wish to join us, here is the ZOOM link. It is only our class that you will zoom with.

There is NO school on Monday the 11.

Please return FlipGrid forms asap so that we may begin to film important announcements to our school and learning buddies.

If you want to film to your rock story at home the link is on GC. Make sure your consent form is handed in.

This week in Learning:

October already! I can tell this year is going to fly by 

MATH: we will learn order of operations and then what's left in this unit is positvie vs negative numbers. Students should expect a unit test next week. A firm date to come later this week.

SCIENCES: we will look at tire treads as evidence and move onto finger prints.

ES: with the municipal election coming soon, students will randomly choose a candidate for mayor and do some research on them. This will be shared with all students so that they can make an informed a decision when they vote on the 18th. Ask your child for document if you wish to have a look.

FLA: students will learning how to write a speech as some have expressed their desire to run for class counsel. Those not ruinning will write a speech about what democracy means to them, evidenced by the concepts learned in class.

ELA: continuing Chasing Vermeer. Students should be noticing the plethora of figures of speech. Quiz coming soon.

RELIGION: we come to know God through Scripture and reason. Students need a rock and an idea to share the story for their buddies in grade 3 by tomorrow so we can flipgrid.
Jacket Racket coming soon and Thanksgiving liturgy this Friday. Details to follow.

ART: working on onomatopeia words

Musique: we begin our head to head competition for the best francophone song. Also research on our singer/group and song lyrics.

Comic books in FLA are due Monday 

Students who did not choose a rock need to do so by Monday. Stories for learning buddies need to planned out as well to become knowledge keepers. We will tell our stories via Flipgrid on Tuesday.
