- I only have 19/23 students who have sent me their songs for the French competition. You NEED to do this tonight or else you will not participate.
This week in Learning:
MATH: we continue with exponents, practicing how to find the prime factors of a number first, then writing them in a mathematical equation using exponents. Eg: 7x7x7 = 73
= 343
It is IMPERATIVE that students know their multiplication tables to 12 x 12. I read the document for PAT's this year and NO calculators are allowed at all. Practice every night if your child is weak or struggling. Start with one number at a time. How to memorize best: read it once; write it twice; say it 3 times.
ELA: students should have completed reading and comprehension questions up to and including chapter 13. Figures of Speech quiz on Oct 4
FLA: we continue with grammar and they are getting better at knowing the parts of a sentence. After our quiz on determinants, there will be a quiz on nouns and adjectives. The goal is to get students to stop and think as they are writing.
SCI: today we looked at tire tracks and next up is soil analysis.
E.S.: we have finished the intro and chapter one and there will be a unit test on October 10th. I had given the date of October 6th, however I am now just realizing that this is a PG day, no school. More time to study!! Next chapter is how can we make a difference in our world.
Religion: Notebooks should be up to date. Every class or so, students are assigned a task and it goes into their notebooks. I pick these up and see if they have completed the assignments. They are all on the board for them to get organized.
Music: choice of French song due/approved by Oct 4th. Competition begins Oct 5th
ART: T-shirt due Monday Oct 2 and Sketchbook on lines due Oct 10th. Next up, onomatopée en Francais and shape in skbk.

This week in learning:
MATH: we continue to work on review. During PT conferences I will discuss areas that your child may need work on in math based on the grade 5 diagnostic evaluation. We will be working on multiples and factors this week.
SCI: we continue with forensics: shoeprint and foot impressions
ES: finishing off the intro and Chapter 1 on democracy principles and how citizens can become involved. See the GC for the rubric on current events. Students should have written when their date to present is. Do not watch the news more than 3 days in advance so that is is current.
FLA: we will hopefully finish with the oral presentations this week. Did your child tell you what Mme's #1 rule is? Speaking French is the reason you sent your child to this school and it is the most important part of an immersion education. Some are on track, some still need reminders. After oral presentations we will work on some grammar to help them with their French skills.
ELA: we continue with Chasing Vermeer. Students can take books home to complete readings and comprehension questions for class discussions.
RELIGION: we go to mass on Wednesday so we have been practicing that and they are doing an amazing job. Will will then look at How we find God, beginning with creation.
