This week:

Tomorrow is our field trip to the FCJ center. Lunch is provided, students need only bring a small snack. We will be indoors (including the chapel) and outdoors, so dress comfortably and respectfully. Thank you.

Tuesday is our sports day in the afternoon, and the grade 6ers will be leading the stations. They can dress in their country or origin colors for the Olympics. Everyone needs to bring a water bottle clearly marked with their name. After all the classes have passed through, the grade 6ers will be able to have 20 minutes for themselves to play. Unfortunately due to the water shortage, no water fight will be permitted like last year. Thank you for understanding. 

Wednesday will be our cleaning day, including desks, inside and out, shelves, books, etc. We have not discussed the afternoon yet, but a movie is a possibility, including signing yearbooks and saying final goodbyes. 

This week in learning:

Today students wrote their last exam in Social and the PAT is on Wednesday.

We did a practice PAT in Science together and students are invited to look at the follwoing link for further practice exams. Science PAT is Thursday.

We continue Family life this week and look at the development of the fetus from conception to birth.

Musique project is due the 19th.

Religion project is due Friday.

Friday is also National Indigenous Day where we will have several activities to honor our indigenous peoples.

ELA: novel study due this week as is FLA.

Parents, please note the MATH test today was a field test and the marks do not go into the progress report. I found it difficult, so believe your kids when they say so! The new curriculum is too much, too soon...just saying! (Jump off soap box here)!

Kids need to be studying for ES and Science for next week (Wedn and Thurs respectively). 

They also need to have most of FLA novel sudy done for Monday but the creatvie project, we will continue to work on. Same goes for ELA novel study.

Science tests went home today for signature and to study from. Please return all old exams back after you have studied from them. Merci

This week:

Yesterday was the FLA reading comp PAT

 Today we did a field test for ELA reading comp on Vretta and it seemed to go well.

Tomorrow will be a field test for mental math and Friday will be the whole year content Field test MATH.

Tomorrow is also the test for science unit on trees and forests and we voted to move the Social test to Monday the 17th for chapters 7&8.

For tomorrow, please dress nicely again, not fancy, but no inappropriate T-shirts or ripped pants.Merci

If you have your sketchbook at home, you will need it tomorrow.

What a fun field trip to Weasel Head conservation park. The kids learned a lot and it was a perfect day! Thank you to parents who could join us. Your help is always appreciated.

This week in learning:

math: students will be making a game based on what they learned in finance; investments, loans, risks and rewards.

SCI: finishing the poster on their tree. Due this week. Looking at how we manage forests as well. Unit test coming very soon.

ES: finishing our unit on the Federal gov't and how all 3 governments work together. 

FLA: finishing our novel study and practicing our song for the volunteer tea.

ELA: continuing with Shadows of Disaster novel study. We are on chapter 9/14. There will be a test on their comprehension.

Religion: finishing the project on another religion and then they will present their findings.

Thursday is our year end mass at St Luke church @ 10am. Afterwards, students will be having their Farewell luncheon and at 2pm we will have a Farewell program with the parents arriving by 1h45.

Friday is the volunteer tea for all parents who volunteered. See you at 1h45.

This week in Learning:

Happy to say all permission forms have been handed in for Weasel Head Friday...looking forward to a beautiful day in the forest.

MATH: we started a lesson on investing and will revisit it tomorrow. I also gave students a project for a "want" item to purchase and they will need to do the math to figure out how to earn that item.

SCI: students are researching an Alberta tree. Some students have still not done their experiment on transpiration...even with a letter going home.

ES: we looked at the posters of the Charter of Rights; we looked at 2 groups that have special rights within the Charter

FLA: we are finishing our novel study at the same time that we are preparing a song for the Volunteer tea. The song is on Google classroom...pratiquez!

ELA: We continue with Shadows of Disaster. Remind me of the rubric to give to you tomorrow.

Religion: we are looking at different Religions, but first we are presenting our Social justice projects that students made on Canva.

This short week in learning :

MATH: we begin our final unit on finances, including borrowing and investing. 

SCI: we will be looking at photosynthesis. Experiments on leaves transpiration is now due.

ES: we continue looking at the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and how it came to be.

ELA: continue with Shadows, reading and comprehension questions

FLA: continue with la Montagne noir novel study

Religion: students are still looking at organizations that help the marginalized. This will be due end of this week or Monday of next.

Music: we will pause with our research of instruments and prepare a song for the volunteer tea, June 7th.

Tomorrow we are writing a ELA Field Test. This means that it is a practice PAT and the government will not be getting the marks but I will be looking over their stories and news articles as part of their grade in ELA.  Your child should be looking over their notes tonight for the functional part of the PAT.  

Also be prepared with snacks, water and something to read afterwards. We are working on chapter 3 in Shadows, so that is something they can complete afterwards. 

They should have a thesaurus as that was on the school list of materials at the begining of the year. I have a few but not enough for everyone.

Also to note, several students have decided that it is not important to have a change of shoes anymore or to just not change them. School rules still mandate that students change their shoes for recess and upon coming into the classroom. Furthermore, some are wearing crocks that are not safe inside or out.

First PAT is done! It was tough to sit for over 2 hours, but overall they went well if students applied the information that they learned in class.

 Wednesday will be ELA but it is only a field test, which means that the information does not go to the government. Students should still review their notes on how to write a news article.

This week in learning:

 MATH: Test on symmetry/transformations on Thursday for those who did not do well on the skateboard assignment.

SCI: continuing with Trees/Forests. Today we looked at the bark and how branches grow. Students should be working on their traspiration experiment.

ES: continuing the charter of rights/poster

FLA: con't reading novel chapter 2 will be discussed tomorrow

ELA: Shadows chapter 2 discussed tomorrow

Religion: research on a social justice organization; students were (re-)shown CANVA today

I would like to take individual photos for the yearbook on Thursday this week, weather permitting, as well as committees that the students were in.

We have been doing some practice writing for the PAT's this past week. They will not be written on the new computer platform (Vretta) but on paper. Students have been given feedback as to how to improve and for ELA an old functional prompt to work on a news article.

PAT"s begin promptly at 9am. By that time, students need to have a water bottle, snack and something to keep themselves occupied after they are finished, as no one is permitted to leave the classroom until 2 hours have elapsed. All students are allowed an extra 2 hours to complete their tests and should consider taking their time...slow and steady wins the race.  Students have access to a dictionary, synonym book and Bescherelle verb book. They should have several sharpened pencils, eraser and a sharpener. I handed out some practice prompts for those who wanted to continue practicing. 

We had NO internet today until almost 3pm therefore there was nothing on Google classroom for those absent.

I handed back the skateboard assignments and most of the class did not achieve a passing grade. There will be a make up test for that unit next week and students need to see me to ask for a re-write. The designs were great but the coordinates did not match up. 

Tomorrow in FLA we will write a practice PAT, at least the planning portion. Wednesday we will do one in ELA. Students should be reviewing their notes on how to write a short story and how to wirte an opinion letter (FLA) and news article (ELA). Poetry booklets were returned today for those that handed one in.

ELA: we started a novel study to finish off the year; historical fiction

FLA: several students did not finish reading chapter one of the FLA novel study. Time in class is given, but if the student cannot read it all in class, then it is for homework. Each chapter needs a summary to check for understanding.

SOCIAL: We began chapter 7: how can Canada become a just and equitable society. We will be looking A LOT at the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in this chapter.

SCIENCES: we will look at the inside of a tree; parts and what they do; rings and the life of a tree based on the rings

This week in Learning:

Today was student faith day and the Grade 6's were in charge of leading their BFG's around to the stations. Merci les amis!

MATH: we are finishing the unit on fractions, decimals, % and money this week and the test will be next week. I still have not received all the math assignments for the skateboards. 

SCI: we will continue with trees and forests. Tests on air and aerodynamics was sent home and need signatures so you know where your child stands in the class.

ES: test this week on Provincial gov't Thursday. Tomorrow we will do a review and white board check in.

FLA: tomorrow we recite readers theater. I am looking forward to hearing the expression in your voices.

ELA: we just completed the booklet portion of the poetry unit, but now will be reciting the poems chosen by students; again, expression is key.

Religion: students are finishing their posters on the Catholic Social justice principles.

Music: continuing the research project on an orchestra instrument.

Art: continuing symmetry

As this is our last push until student go into Jr High please note:

If students do not hand in their work on time, it will be up to them to see me or hand it in when they have completed it. I will no longer remind them, nor send notes home to parents. Students should be responsible and accountable for their learning by this time, as next year, it is ALL on them. Your support is appreciated.

Our school is having an Open House on April 29th. If you are willing to help out bring more students to our school, let Mme know. We want students who will be good advocats for our school and convince people of grade ones and kinders to come here.

A little difficult to read but still impressive.

 This week in learning:

Today we tried to use the Vretta platform to do a practice FLA written PAT. Students were asked to write their rough copies out last week so they only had to practice writing the good copy. Unfortunately very students had their homework done. On that same note, students were asked to find a poem to memorize and only 7 did so. This seems to be a recurring theme lately and will not be beneficial in finishing the year. Please speak to your child about being accountable for their learning. Thank you

FLA: finishing the story practice

ELA: students have this week to finish their  poetry booklet and memorize their poem. There will also be a quiz on poetry. All will be due Monday April 22.

MATH: finishing the skateboard. Coordinates were due today, I will give some time to complete the art part/coloring this week.  

ES: We learned about minsters and ministries today. Students will be searching them up in class.

SCI: TEST tomorrow

Religion: Lenten Journey map is due Friday. We have worked on this since Ash Wednesday.
