A final Merry Christmas to you and have a restful holiday. Some students chose to bring home their ELA or Social to get a bit done over the break. Some students still need some help with dividing decimals, so maybe if you have a cold indoor day, spend some time with them and decimals. Don't forget to look at the FLIPGRID made by learning buddies and us with Christmas messages. https://flipgrid.com/62e9a1e0

Thanks to all who sent generous gifts for Christmas. We were so busy yesterday that I didn't have a chance to open them, but then it only means I get  to open more than my own kids on Christmas day! 😆
Looking forward to the break and see you in the NEW year. Blessings...Mme Colette

Friday, December 10, 2021

Happy Friday!

Less than one week left and I plan on keeping the students busy to avoid chaos and melt downs.

We are pretty much finished our unit on Ancient Athens and there will be a test after Christmas. The same is true of our Math unit on decimals and our Science unit on Astronomy. There will be review when we come back, but if they need more time, looking over notes a bit at a time might be helpful. Usually these units are completed before Christmas but we had a few interruptions, so it is what it is.

Next week:

We are missing a few rolls of Tin foil for Feed the Hungry

Gifts for Steal a gift are due Monday if students want to participate. 15$ value

Thursday is Ugly Christmas sweater/Christmas dress up. It is our last day of school. Time will be spent cleaning, organizing, playing and a movie will be shown in the afternoon. Students will need to bring their own snack and I will provide drinks.

Wednesday, December 8, 2021

Last day of class fun...December 16th

  • NO FOOD OR CANDY DUE TO ALLERGIES
  • We will draw #'s to see who gets to choose first and students will end up with a gift at the end. This is optional and just for fun.
  • Students are supposed to discuss with you before agreeing to participate. Gifts will be due Monday Dec 13th, so we are not scrambling at the last minute.

I will be asking the kids to look at the sky often during this unit so don't be surprised if they leave the house just before bed to star gaze.

Friday, June 25, 2021

I looked though my old BLOG and came across my final one from when I taught these kids in Grade 1 2015-2016. I am reposting it here now...and to be honest, it still applies.

Shed a few tears today as I am sad to see them leave. I hope they keep me in the loop in their future endeavors. God Bless you all and may you ahve a safe a relaxing summer.

Post from 2015 (there are also photos of your kids there if you want to go down memory lane)

A final goodbye...
As I remove all of our decorations and works of art and pack up my things to move forward, I wanted to say a last goodbye...or rather

 Au revoir.
I am exhausted, but fulfilled after my first year back to teaching in many years. Your children have definitely kept me young (despite the gray hairs poking through)! I hope their first year of school has made them life-long learners and has given them the desire to do better, to do great things and to have fun while doing all of that.
As you now know, I am jumping a few grades to teach grade 6. My first plan was to stay in grade 1 for another year or two, but I was asked to teach grade 6 because of my background in Jr. high. I am looking forward to new adventures, new challenges and maybe a few minutes to sit during the day ( a luxury not afforded to grade 1 teachers...ask your kids about Mme Colette's magic magnet trick)!
I hope we see each other again in a few years. Remind your children to read in French over the holidays and if it's a rainy day, check out French cartoons on You Tube. This will help them not lose what they have worked so hard for this past year.
With love and Blessings,
Mme Colette

Tomorrow is our Play Day and it will go in the afternoon. Students are asked to dress for the weather as we will be outside. It may mean rain or sun so be prepared. A change of clothes might also be in order as there is a water station...and I know your children! The theme is Christmas in June.

Thank you to all for attending our semi-virtual Farewell. Despite a few technical glitches, I think it went well. I had several students come and thank me for it and they had fun, which is what is important.

This week we will be completing assignments, and focusing our attention on Indigenous studies.
Friday, our last day in the afternoon, we will have a junk food movie day. More information to come.

A reminder that our Grade 6 Farewell is Monday June 21st. Students were asked to dress semi-formal/Sunday best. Students will be treated to a pizza lunch, a drink and a cupcake. If they need more food, they can bring more.
Parents were sent the ZOOM link to their emails to join us virtually at 12h30.
