It’s the last week of September, how did we get here already?
My name is Mme. Reimer, and I am a student teacher in Mme. Colette’s class. This is my last full week here until January, however, I will be doing a bi-weekly visit to keep up with the students and their learning.
Important things to note:
- Thursday, September 26 is our theme day. Students should come to school dressed in a beach/Hawaiian theme, please note that swimsuits are not allowed.
- Friday, September 27 is our opening Mass. We will be walking to the church, so please ensure that students are dressed for the weather. We are still in need of a volunteer.
- Monday, September 30, we will be having our Terry Fox run. There will be a permission form sent home to go outside for the run. Please bring in a TOONIE for Terry with the signed form before Monday.
- Monday, September 30, students are encouraged to wear orange for Orange Shirt Day to promote awareness about the residential school system and the impact this has had on the Indigenous communities around Canada.
This week in learning:
MATH: Students were given their corrected Fiche 3 today. Some students were given a redo if they didn’t understand or if they seemed to have rushed through their work. These assignments are used to inform us what they understand/what they didn’t understand so that we can prepare them for the summative assessments. Fiche 3 is due tomorrow September 25. Fiche 4 was also given today and is due Thursday, September 26. We will be continuing with factors this week and they will be given class time to work on Fiche 5, due Thursday, September 26. The students will have their first quiz in math Wednesday, October 3, covering lessons 1-5. The corrected fiche assignments and questions from the book are great study tools to prepare for the quiz. There are several students not completing their homework questions from the book. These questions are important for the students to complete to enhance their learning.
ELA: The “Secret life” story that students have been working on for quite some time is due this Friday, September 27. Today is their last period of class time to work on it as we are starting a novel study Thursday. We will also be looking at different figures of speech throughout the next few weeks.
FLA: The comic book that students have been creating is due Monday, September 30 and we will be starting expressions using the verbs AVOIR et ÊTRE. Students will have a quiz on comic book vocabulary, Monday, September 30.
SCIENCE: We will be continuing with the unit on research and proof, focusing on fingerprints and tire marks.
ÉTUDE SOCIALES: This week, we will be talking about the student elections and narrowing in on how to differentiate between facts and opinions.
RELIGION: This week, we will be talking about knowing God through scripture. Friday, we will be attending and participating in the opening mass.
ART: Last week we began working on an onomatopoeia piece where the students were to make a cartoon looking word. We will be finishing that piece this week.
SANTÉ: Last week, Mme. Colette posted a photo of questions on the board that were to be answered for homework. These questions are due Monday, September 30, in the health basket near the back of the class.
We have a busy week with a lot of work due on Friday! Please keep up with the blog to stay ahead of the due dates.
