As part of our Religion program, students are asked to take on Social Justice projects to demonstrate how we can be more like Christ in helping the less fortunate. This coming month, we will be organizing 2 drives:
1. A food drive for St Luke's Feed the Hungry. This will run from now until October 9th when they pick up the food in the morning. Each grade has their own list of Food items.
2. Pass it along clothing. Mme Wozny has been asking for donations of clothing for a while now. Take a look in your closets for any clothes that are no longer needed. Send in clean clothes that are still in good condition to the school. Grade sixers will sort them on October 16th.
Thank you for your generosity in both of these worthwhile leadership activities.
Today in ELA students were exposed to arpa on figures of speech. Here is the link for you

It’s the last week of September, how did we get here already?
My name is Mme. Reimer, and I am a student teacher in Mme. Colette’s class. This is my last full week here until January, however, I will be doing a bi-weekly visit to keep up with the students and their learning.
Important things to note:
- Thursday, September 26 is our theme day. Students should come to school dressed in a beach/Hawaiian theme, please note that swimsuits are not allowed.
- Friday, September 27 is our opening Mass. We will be walking to the church, so please ensure that students are dressed for the weather. We are still in need of a volunteer.
- Monday, September 30, we will be having our Terry Fox run. There will be a permission form sent home to go outside for the run. Please bring in a TOONIE for Terry with the signed form before Monday.
- Monday, September 30, students are encouraged to wear orange for Orange Shirt Day to promote awareness about the residential school system and the impact this has had on the Indigenous communities around Canada.
This week in learning:
MATH: Students were given their corrected Fiche 3 today. Some students were given a redo if they didn’t understand or if they seemed to have rushed through their work. These assignments are used to inform us what they understand/what they didn’t understand so that we can prepare them for the summative assessments. Fiche 3 is due tomorrow September 25. Fiche 4 was also given today and is due Thursday, September 26. We will be continuing with factors this week and they will be given class time to work on Fiche 5, due Thursday, September 26. The students will have their first quiz in math Wednesday, October 3, covering lessons 1-5. The corrected fiche assignments and questions from the book are great study tools to prepare for the quiz. There are several students not completing their homework questions from the book. These questions are important for the students to complete to enhance their learning.
ELA: The “Secret life” story that students have been working on for quite some time is due this Friday, September 27. Today is their last period of class time to work on it as we are starting a novel study Thursday. We will also be looking at different figures of speech throughout the next few weeks.
FLA: The comic book that students have been creating is due Monday, September 30 and we will be starting expressions using the verbs AVOIR et ÊTRE. Students will have a quiz on comic book vocabulary, Monday, September 30.
SCIENCE: We will be continuing with the unit on research and proof, focusing on fingerprints and tire marks.
ÉTUDE SOCIALES: This week, we will be talking about the student elections and narrowing in on how to differentiate between facts and opinions.
RELIGION: This week, we will be talking about knowing God through scripture. Friday, we will be attending and participating in the opening mass.
ART: Last week we began working on an onomatopoeia piece where the students were to make a cartoon looking word. We will be finishing that piece this week.
SANTÉ: Last week, Mme. Colette posted a photo of questions on the board that were to be answered for homework. These questions are due Monday, September 30, in the health basket near the back of the class.
We have a busy week with a lot of work due on Friday! Please keep up with the blog to stay ahead of the due dates.

This is week 3 of school and there are still students without gym strip or calculators. Please ensure that your child has these items. Organization is key in grade 6! Also, if students do not have "homework" per se, they should be reviewing material taught during each day to keep info fresh.
Pizza forms go home today. Deadlines are very important for these documents. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
BAR B Q and interviews this week. See you there, book your time.
I will be giving all students a copy of the schedule to put into their agendas. It is never set in stone, as flexibility is important, however it gives them an idea as to what to expect.
We have Gym on days 1 , 3 and 4
Library is on day 5 but begins next week.
This week in Learning:
Math: We will finish up with multiples and move onto prime and composite numbers and finish with factors. I corrected the MIPI and will be discussing results with you at interviews. This is a diagnostic math test to see where weaknesses are and what to focus on this year.
Etudes Sociales: Students have learned which values are important to Canada and to democracy. We have learned why rules are important. This week we will look at why we have a government. Students will also be researching their riding and the candidates running. Current events dates have also been given out, so students should know when they are expected to watch the news. Elections Canada website
https://elections.ca/accueilGE.aspx
SCIENCES: Today we looked at animals tracks and learned the difference between observations and inferences. This week we will also learn about fingerprint types and distinguishing features.

Consent forms went home today for vaccines that will take place on Oct 10th. Please return them by September 18th.
If students want to go above and beyond in their learning, I would suggest that they research or read more on forensic science and/or other careers in this domain as we talked about today.

This week in Learning:
Math: students will have received Fiche 1 corrected. This is a formative assessment (it shows us that they get it or they didn't). If students did not do well on the Fiche, they need to ask for more help before the end of the unit, whereby we will have a Summative assessment, a test that will go towards their progress report. Be responsible for YOUR learning. WE finish lesson 2 this week and may go onto lesson 3
FLA: students are writing a skit to go with a comic book. Today is their last day to write and tomorrow they will practice. Thursday they will perform. Then it's onto making a comic book of their own.
ELA: today we learned about paragraphs and students were asked to write one for the ending of a story. That is due tomorrow.
SCI: we will look at evidence, more specifically foot imprints.
SOCIAL: students are being asked to watch the news and more specifically Canadian government news. I will put together a calendar and they will be assigned a date to report the news back to the class. The news can be local, provincial or federal govt related. In the meantime, we are learning about the things that Canada values in terms of democracy.
ART: hoodies and name tags are due Friday
Religion: this year we have a new program that we will be learning together. The first unit is titled "How we come to know God". By the end of the chapter, students will be asked to put their knowledge together in some art form. More info to come.
Also, we are in charge of the opening mass on Sept. 27th. We are practicing readings and songs. Please join us at the church @ 10h30
My email for students to be in contact with me is colette.page-turner@learn.cssd.ab.ca
