Time she is a ticking!!!
This week in learning:
FLA: we are alternating between Hockey lecture and Mini Prof to help students with their reading comprehension. So far, so good. Everyone is engaged and we are learning lots of vocabulary.
ELA: projects for Shadows due this week and a test on the novel Wednesday May 31st.
MATH: test on Module 7 this Friday. We are beginning transformations tomorrow, which is a super short unit.
Science: We are well into trees and forests. The notes are on their learn accounts for further reading.
Social: Finishing Federal Govnt. this week with a look at "La Grande Paix de Montreal", consensus and respect and test next week.
Religion: finishing the Easter Season, as well as our unit on internet safety.
I sent an email home with all of the information about the Farewell. Please have a close look at it and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I will need one or two parents to come in and trace the silhouettes of the students' heads for part of our decor. If you are able to do so, please let me know asap.
PLEASE READ THIS:
With the heat of summer upon us and the fact that students like to run aroound at recess, it is IMPERATIVE that they have deoderant to put on at any time during the day. The stench that emmanated from them today as a class was almost unbearable. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SAVE YOUR TEACHER!
To end on a happy note:
The students did a marvelous job at the lip sync last week; from the committee (Catherine, Julien B, Natalie and Gianluca) for setting up and emceeing, to the council (Jack, Julien N and Grace) for tallying and writing out the rubrics; to the competitors (Maya, Catherine, Naamah, Summer and Leala) to the entire class for their final performance (they made 4 teachers cry and everyone commented on their outstanding performance). Volunteers will have a repeat at the tea and all parents will get to be amazed at the Farewell.

Short week this week…
I can feel the end coming sooner than I wish it to!
FR: continuing to do reading comprehension exercises with our round II
of Hockey Lecture. Also students will be able to be the teachers in another
exercise that has them asking the questions and giving guidance with respect to
vocabulary.
ELA: finishing the final projects for Shadows of Disaster.
MATH: finishing probability this week and will have a test coming up
next week.
SOCIAL: finishing federal government this week and a unit test coming up
next week.
SCIENCE: beginning our unit on trees. I have decided that I will be
sending the notes home through google mail. We will study and discuss in class
and then if students wish to copy the notes, they can do so from home. This is
a great way to get used to checking their mail for assignments and such for Jr
High next year. The responsibility is in their hands.
HEALTH: they will be doing a short research on drugs, their effects and
street names, so they are knowledgeable and not ignorant about abuses.
RELIGION: we are looking at internet safety, with respect to our unit on
human sexuality.
ART: finishing Picasso

Did anyone miss the BLOG last week?
I was super busy with PAT corrections that I had no time for anything else. Just to let you know, from my point of view, everyone had Acceptable, Above or Excellent levels on their written portions. I was super pleased with that. The tests now go up to Edmonton for corrections.
This week in Learning:
FLA: Congratulations to Allie, who was chosent to represent our class at the Gala Oratoire at Bishop McNally. We had a 5 way tie and students had to re-present their poem to the class.
We are beginning Hockey Lecture Season 2 to help with our french comprehension. We had 4 captains pick their teams and will begin tomorrow.
ELA: Finishing Shadows of Disaster. We will have a test on the content and a final activity to wrap it up. Several students were not up to date in their daily reading and question answering and this will affect their final marks. In the future we will also be working on comprehension strategies.
MATH: finishing probability and analyzing diagrams. Test next week. Some students are not completing daily homework and it will affect their final mark.
Social studies: We are in the middle of Federal government and how our constitution affects everyone. Students should become familiar with the Charter of rights and freedoms as well. Test on Provincial gov't went home last week and should be signed and returned.
Sciences: finishing aerodynamics and how a plane flies. Test coming soon and our last unit will be on trees.
Religion: we are almost finished the unit on human sexuality. Questions have been respectful and insightful.
Music: we are preparing a lip sync presentation for next week. Students will also present it at Farewell. As with the Christmas concert, SOME students are having an attitude towards this presentation. It is meant to showcase a french song, their musical beat and movement and to have fun. If your child is someone with attitude, please have a chat with them.
Speaking of attitudes...I realize that the end is in sight, and that spring is finally here and they are excited, BUT, we still have a lot to cover, review to go through and assignments to complete. Today I raised my voice, as I have never done to date because the chatter is never-ending. They have conversations amongst themselves while I am speaking and the lack of respect is growing. I don't want to become mean Mme Colette for the last few weeks, but if necessary, I will have to. I would appreciate your support in having a conversation with your child.

Here is a website whereby students can take a tour of the Legislative building in Edmonton. We were able to have a quick look today, but worth taking some time to search further. Be advised that it is not supported by Chrome so you have to access it through Explorer or some other internet interface (is that the right word? techno challenged here!)

On
écrit sur les murs
On écrit sur les murs le nom de ceux
qu'on aime
qu'on aime
qu'on aime
Des messages pour les jours à venir

This week in learning:
FR; students are memorizing their poem...I will scan them tonight and put them up on the BLOG tomorrow. So far, they are impressive. We are also finishing our short story. Rough copy should be done by tomorrow.
ELA: still getting through Shadows; this week we will have a practice short story prompt. This will be the same format as a PAT, in other words: a prompt, brain storm ideas, rough draft, and good copy. The PAT writing portions focus on ideas and less on spelling. I tell them to keep it simple to avoid running out of time.
MATH: finishing geometry, volume, area, perimeter. Test this Friday.
Science: going into Flight. We dropped our parachutes today. It had be to outside, so there was a bit of wind, but overall they did well. Test on air today, they said was easy...correcting tonight!
Etudes Sociales: finishing provincial govnt and going into Federal. Test on Provincial next Monday.
Religion: Presentation on the development of the baby this week. We will begin speaking more about human sexuality.
IMPORTANT: Wednesday in the morning, as it is going to be nice outside, I have asked Shannon to come and help us take pictures for our yearbook. Please dress nicely, but not super dressed up (just no ripped t-shirts or pants). We will have some group shots at the playground as well.
We begin Freezie Fridays this week. Second recess we will sell them for 50ȼ each. We wll have a committee.
Lip sync is also underway. Solo or groups. Letter should have been sent home.
FREAK out time...someone told me we only have 41 days of school left...YIKES
