We are working on a French center idea called "Les 5 au Quotidien" or in English "The Daily 5" whereby students rotate centers and are asked to work on literature. The above photo is Reading to a Friend. The one to the right is Reading to Self (comfy pillows included)
This is a photo of students working on writing.
The last station "Listening to Reading" is still a work in progress as is "One on One time with the teacher". All of these centers will help your child to become a better reader and also to help them read for comprehension, which will be our next big push from now to the end June.
Math: We are beginning to learn about place value, for example, ones, tens and hundreds. Friday of this week is our 100th day so we will be counting to 100 several times over.
Science: We are finishing the unit on the 5 senses and an evaluation will be forthcoming this week.
Etudes Sociales: We will be starting our unit on the Past vs the Present. Speak to your child about traditions that you had growing up revolving around holidays so they can compare that with what you do now. Or go one step further and talk to grandparents and their growing up years.
English: We will be looking at the short vowel "u" in words such as "rug, bun, pup" and also I would like to get the students to think about writing a story based on the elements that we previously studied (setting, character, problem, solution).
Health: Evaluation on the 4 food groups this week. They did an awesome job on their coloring of certain foods in each group.
Can I tell you how proud of the students I was after the Ash Wednesday celebration? I was so full of love and admiration and pride for their practicing, their participation, and their respect throughout the whole time. Well done les amis de Mme Colette et de Mme Chantal. xo
