This week in learning:

MATH: we are finished our unit on + and - numbers so I will make the evaluation just a quiz as there is not enough to evaluate for a test. We will finish reviewing this week and then the eval will be Monday October 30th.

ELA: the due date for  the Vermeer Novel study is November 3rd and there will be the time in class to complete what needs to get done, including the news article and the free choice project.

FLA: we are finishing our verb study. The 3rd group is the most difficult because of all the exceptions , however students are great at ER and IR verbs in the present. There will be a quiz on thusday Oct 26 on these 2 groups as well as expressions with AVOIR et ETRE.

SCI: we are finishing our unit on Forensics, the test date will be determined soon. Students will be working on a group project to show their learning in the meantime.

ES: election speeches were great and well prepared. Students will have a difficult time with voting on Monday. We had 19 candidates and there will be 5 counsel members. Others will be involved in committees, so there are still opportunities to make a difference in the school.

Health: we are learning study skills with a plethora of tips and tricks. If students apply these, they will have lifelong skills to help them in Jr high and beyond.

Religion: in chapter 2 students have been placed into groups to delve deeper into how the Church brings us closer to God. They will teach their section to the class by the end of the week.

Music: we have almost finished round 1 of the head to head Franco competition. Students will then research their musicians and analyze the lyrics of the song.

Sorry for the delay... I was quite ill over the weekend and yesterday and am now just getting to the Blog.

This week in learning:

FLA: began verbes ending in ER today for the present. Tomorrow is a quiz on nouns and adjectives.

ELA: continuing Vermeer...getting closer to the end. We will learn how to write a news article soon based on the novel.

NOTE

I still have some students who have not handed in their forms to walk to church.

With Halloween coming, I have noticed a lot more candy in morning snack time. Sugar is not a good source of fuel for the brain. Please limit or eliminate candy for snacks. Thank you for your cooperation.

This is for ELA:

  • I only have 19/23 students who have sent me their songs for the French competition. You NEED to do this tonight or else you will not participate.

Sunday, October 1, 2023

This week in Learning:

MATH: we continue with exponents, practicing how to find the prime factors of a number first, then writing them in a mathematical equation using exponents. Eg: 7x7x7 = 73

                                = 343

It is IMPERATIVE that students know their multiplication tables to 12 x 12. I read the document for PAT's this year and NO calculators are allowed at all. Practice every night if your child is weak or struggling. Start with one number at a time. How to memorize best: read it once; write it twice; say it 3 times.

ELA: students should have completed reading and comprehension questions up to and including chapter 13. Figures of Speech quiz on Oct 4

FLA: we continue with grammar and they are getting better at knowing the parts of a sentence. After our quiz on determinants, there will be a quiz on nouns and adjectives. The goal is to get students to stop and think as they are writing.

SCI: today we looked at tire tracks and next up is soil analysis.

E.S.: we have finished the intro and chapter one and there will be a unit test on October 10th. I had given the date of October 6th, however I am now just realizing that this is a PG day, no school. More time to study!! Next chapter is how can we make a difference in our world.

Religion: Notebooks should be up to date. Every class or so, students are assigned a task and it goes into their notebooks. I pick these up and see if they have completed the assignments. They are all on the board for them to get organized.

Music: choice of French song due/approved by Oct 4th. Competition begins Oct 5th

ART: T-shirt due Monday Oct 2 and Sketchbook on lines due Oct 10th. Next up, onomatopée en Francais and shape in skbk.
