This week in Learning:
FLA: we will begin a novel study called "La montagne noire". Students will be given a rubric showing exactly what is expected of them throughout this unit. improving vocabulary and writing a personal letter is on the agenda.

ELA: students were assigned a greek god to research and given the rubric. They are to use caution with some websites. We had a discussion today about being mature and able to handle the information. Anyone not following this warning will be asked to do a research on something else.
the essential task is obtaining good information (web searches and finding the right info).

MATH: test this Wednesday. Next unit...decimals

SCIENCE: are you still observing the moon? We will go through the phases. If students have a flashlight or iphone with the APP, thye can bring it in and use for this section. We will also look at the sun (not literally, because that would blind you) but figuratively and know what it does for us in terms of astronomy.

SOCIAL: we will break out into groups to put together the information for the debates. I will assign topics and FOR or AGAINST. Still waiting for all Social tests to returned signed.

Religion: students are working on their signs of Catholicity...a summary of chapter 2

IMPORTANT:

  • still missing some forms for Telus SPARK
  • I have 4 volunteers so far
  • Thursday is pizza and theme day...grandparents
  • This is bullying prevention week. Students are asked to wear BLUE on Wednesday for international day of the child

Actualités: Quelle planète est allée devant le soleil cette fin de semaine et quand sera la prochaine fois que tu pourras voir ceci?

This week in Learning:

MATH: finishing up this unit this week. Looking at maintaining equality and then there will be a test next Tuesday (unless disruptions occur and then I will change the date).

FLA: we are still working reading comprehension and it is going well. Students have a tendency to NOT look up words they don't know and I am trying to break habit. Even I don't know all french words.

ELA: we are finishing Vermeer. Today students were given a rubric for this novel study. If they have been up-to-date with everything, there should be no panic. Rubric includes: comprehension questions, title page, decoded letters and a news article about the painting being found. These are all due this Thursday Nov. 14.

SCIENCE: still looking up? This week we will look at the phasdes of the moon, rotation and revolution. we have a field trip booked to Telus SPARK on November 28th. If you know of your availability already and would like to join us, please send me an email. I will have more details to come. We will be leaving 8h50 and returning 2h30ish. I will reply personnally to confirm whether you are coming or not.

SOCIAL: tests are corrected, but one student has been ill and has not written yet. Hoepfully this week they will receive exams back. Already an improvement in marks and effort.FYI the first two chapters are more difficult as the concepts are so abstract.  We begin Ancient Greece this week.

RELIGION: students will presenting chapter 2 knowledge to the class this Thursday and Friday. How does the church bring us closer to God. Scrapbooks and journals are due this Wednesday.

ART: finishing water color painting à la Vermeer hopefully tomorrow.

CTF: students should be completing their slideshow to present to PArent Council in the near future.

THIS WEEK:
Métis week...ask your children what they learn every day

There are still some spots available to sign up for the Bake Sale. So far only the girls are selling...boys? Here is the link to help out

Friday, November 8, 2019

Today students were able to look at the night sky using an APP called "Skyview". It is free of charge and I would recommend allowing your children to download it. The other APP that is useful in this unit is "Moon". We are looking at the different phases of the moon for the month of November and part of December.

This week in Learning:
FLA: we will try to get crime scene presentations done, however there are several students absent. If not, we will move onto reading comprehension for now.

ELA: continuing Vermeer. Hopefully we will finish soon. Practice news article due this Thursday and then students will be asked to write one for the Vermeer novel, showing me what they learned.

SCIENCE: we began our Astromonie unit today looking at how insignificant we really are. I cannot return the exams for Crime and Evidence until everyone has written.

MATH: we continue to plot coordinates on graphs and students should be able to see the connection between these and our algebra graphs...hopefully!

SOCIAL: test this Friday on Chapter two. We will spend the week studying and reviewing. Nouvelle question: Actualité: Qui a démissionnée comme leader, de quel parti politique, pourquoi et qui lui a remplacé?

ART: we paint our Vermeer one-point perspectives today. I still have sketchbooks that have not been handed in.

RELIGION: we will move onto chapter 2...how does the church help us to know God. I would like students to watch Father Rob Galea's message on how to pray and let me know if they see any similarities with how we wrote our prayers.
