This week in Learning:

FLA: we will begin something called "Tour a Tour, which is guided reading for better comprehension. Students become the teachers and take turns helping others understand their readings. Lentopoly tonight:
send a friend or relative a note of encouragement.

With the Gala Oratoire approaching, I would need to know who is available to represent our school on May 25th. I had asked students to have parents sign agendas letting me know, but to date I have had 2 notes. Please check your schedules and see if your child is able and willing to represent the grade 6 at the City's Gala oratoire. Merci

Lent Liturgy tomorrow at 9h30 am
Science test afterwards

On CTV news tonight after the polls close, Student Vote will be sharing their results. Wanted to let the students know so if they want to stay up and watch, they are part of that statistic.

Lentopoly tonight: compliment a family member 3 times.  Make sure they make it sincere!

This week in Learning:

I am finding that some students are treating due dates as "suggestions" as opposed to handing things in on time. This is not a good habit to get into for when they go to Jr High and High School. Please use your time wisely and use your agendas.

FLA: we will be finishing story prompt this week. Due Thursday. Continuing to memorise poems.

ELA: continuing shadows post reading activities. They are also due Thursday of this week.

SOCIAL: students voted today and our results cannot be disclosed until after the provincial election is closed on Tuesday at 8pm. Students are working on finishing cahpter 6, Provincial government. Test is after Easter April 25th. Only 3 students answered the question on the Governor General for Canada and the Lieutenant Governor for AB.

SCIENCE: finishing the unit on flight and the test is Thursday this week. As you can see, a lot is due Thursday which means it is a good time to use time management skills and spread out the studying and homework.

RELIGION: students are preparing the Passion of Christ in Reader's Theater form. They will present to me on Wednesday.

MATH: we did experiments today to make up statistics. We move onto how to plot this info this week.

Holy Thursday liturgy @ 9h30

This week in Learning:

Math: test tomorrow on Module 6 geometry. Next up is the study of statistics and probability.

FLA: we are working on 2 different areas simultaneously. First is the Gala oratoire, which is a speech presentation. Students are memorizing their poems for class presentations, then 1 student will be chosen from classess to represent St Luke grade 6. The other is narrative writing in preparation for the PAT's. Book report due Thursday. Quiz on "imparfait" Wednesday as is Library class.

ELA: We should be completed Shadows this week and then we will work on the functional part of the PAT's which is a newspaper article, based on Shadows. We will also have a wrap up activity of choice for students to demonstrate their opinions of the book.

SCIENCE: we have tried so hard to get paper aiplanes to do what we want them to, but it is not working. Today I gave each student a styrofoam plane. It can be used to study the parts and what each part does. Next up is helicopters and how they work. I anticipate the unit test to be by the end of this month if not before.

HEALTH: today students were given a table in which they are asked to write down what they eat each day. This will be for an entire week and will be picked up next Monday. We are also in the midst of comparing the old and the new Canada food guides.

SOCIAL: we will look at how Provincial governments make laws and how the representatives are elected, which they already have an idea about. I received the ballots for the students for next week's vote. I am quite excited about that.

RELIGION: we are looking at forgiveness and several passages in the Bible that show how important it is to forgive. We have a mini celebration this week.
Lentopoly tonight: confession...spend 3minutes in prayer talking to God about your wrongdoings and say an act of contrition.

ART: today we begin abstract art and will look at 2 famous artists: Picasso and Matisse.

Happy return...
I hope that everyone had a restful break and is ready to get busy and back to work. We only have 12 weeks left of school if we take away days off for Easter and PAT exams...not much so let's get down to business.

MATH: we will be finishing the unit this week on geometry and the test is scheduled for next Tuesday the 9th. we did a quick review this morning and some students still have their brains intact!

SCIENCE: we are working on flight and today we learned the parts of an airplane and 2 out of the 3 movements that a plane can do. We will put those movements to the test when we make a new paper airplane which they will modify with the different parts.
Good luck to Danica and Geneva who are on their way to the City Science Fair this Friday and Saturday.

ELA: continuing Shadows. We will be finished by next week, with a newspaper article, a comprehension test and perhaps a cumulative assignment.

FLA: We will be going between writing prompts and memorizing the poem for the Gala. The written portion of the PAT's for French is May 7th, so we want to be well prepared with ideas for stories. We have no date for the Gala as of yet, so it is on the agenda as well. All students must recite in front of the class and then one student is chosen from each grade to represent our school.

SOCIAL: I am super excited that we are right in the middle of learning about the Provinvial government while our province is in election mode. This Thursday is the debate on TV and I encourage to watch it. We received info about it see below:
Le premier débat des chefs télévisé aura lieu le jeudi soir, 4 avril. Le débat mettra en vedette Notley, Kenney, Khan et Mandel. Le débat de 90 minutes débutera à 17:30 (heure des Rocheuses), et sera télévisé à CBC, CTV et CityNews, en plus d’être disponible en ligne.
This week, students will be getting to know their candidates and their platforms in order to make an informed decision on April 16th.
Tests on Local gov't go home tomorrow to be signed and returned.
Actualite cette semaine: Qui est le ministre d'Education en Alberta?

RELIGION: we are working on the stations of the cross so that we may pray them during Holy Week. Each student is assigned one to draw and explain.
