Lentopoly:
In confession. Spend 3 minutes talking to God about something you did wrong in the past 3 days. Say an act of contrition. Example below

Also for homework tonight, students need to bring materials necessary to make a parachute. This includes the sail part and the strings. I will provide the weight. They can also make their own paper airplane as we are testing out 2 versions to see which will go the farthest.

With the sloppy weather, please send an extra pair of dry socks to avoid smelly feet. I thank you!

choix de Poemes:

#1.
Pour devenir une sorcière

A l'école des sorcières
On apprend les mauvaises manières
D'abord ne jamais dire pardon
Etre méchant et polisson
S'amuser de la peur des gens
Puis détester tous les enfants

A l'école des sorcières
On joue dehors dans les cimetières
D'abord à saute-crapaud
Ou bien au jeu des gros mots
Puis on s'habille de noir
Et l'on ne sort que le soir

A l'école des sorcières
On retient des formules entières
D'abord des mots très rigolos
Comme "chilbernique" et "carlingot"
Puis de vraies formules magiques

Et là il faut que l'on s'applique.

#2.

This week in Learning:

Social: information regarding Wards is due this Thursday. Students to send it to me via email.
Today we looked at how local governments are elected and how citizens can become engaged. I anticipate finishing this unit soon and having the test on March 21st before break.

Science: We are working on some research and today students randomly picked either a bird or an insect to depict on a poster how they fly. This will be due next week as well.  We are also learning about the four forces of flight: drag (trainée), lift (portance), thrust (poussée) and weight (poids).

MATH: moving onto the polygones and area.

ELA: continuing Shadows

FLA: learning a new poem. As well, I want students to have their poem chosen for the Gala Oratoire by this Thursday. In the next blog, I have chosen three that they can use, or they can find one on their own.

RELIGION: Lentopoly continues, as does our preparation for Easter. Did you know that the church changes the color of the cloths and robes to purple during Lent?

ART: still working on our grid pictures. Sketchbooks with texture due April 1st.

This week:
Speedskating today
French play tomorrow, as well as a Metis elder coming to speak to students in the p.m.
CTF work tomorrow...last class

There will be some tired kids tonight!
For those that left early, you don't need to read all of chapter 4, as I will give you time in class to finish reading with the questions.
The Actualite question is in the previous weekly BLOG in th eSocial Studies section.

This week in Learning:
Today we had dry land training and we go to the oval on Wednesday and next Monday. Thank you to the parents who volunteered to help us out.

ELA: we continue working our way through Shadows of disaster. Chapter 3 questions are due tomorrow.

FLA: we began a unit on poetry today that will move us into the Gala oratoire, a French speaking forum for immersion students. We started with a fun take on words called a mot-valise which fuses 2 words together to make a new one. Creativity is the name of the game in this unit.

MATH: fractions test will go home tomorrow to be signed. I find that not all students return their tests signed...is that because you don't see them, or because they are living in students' backpacks? To prepare for the PAT's these returned tests will help enormously for studying. Please return them.
We are working on geometry next... a lot of vocabulary to review each night.

SCIENCE: we will be moving into flight as we are nearly done air. Students will be making a poster about an animal or object that flies this week.

SOCIAL: continuing with Local government. Homework sheets that students needed to do with you on the services that use are due tomorrow. Several Social test on Iroquois did not return to school signed.
Actualité cette semaine: lundi les conseillers se sont réunis derrières les portes fermées pour discuter quel sujet encore une fois...(ce n'est pas le fluore cette fois, mais un sujet qui a eu beaucoup de discussions à l'automne).

RELIGION: we are working on Social justice and students had been asked to bring in gently used towels, blankets or stuffed toys. To date 1 student has helped out. The curriculum centers around doing things for others...help us make a difference.

ART: continuing "Blowing up" images...those students who have begun are doing a great job so far. At least one more class for this assignment.

Progress reports go home on Friday.
Students also need to be on the lookout for sign-up sheets for Bake Sale (coming soon) and the CTF sales of their goods. The latter has been sent to their learn accounts and they can sign up as needed. We will be hosting the sale in the Learning Commons. One more class for production and finalities.
