This week in Learning:
FLA: students will be doing another round of literacy circles, although after today, that plan may come to an end. I had asked students to work in their groups so that I might work one on one with students to see where their reading skills lie. I can honestly say that not all groups were on task, showing me that they maybe cannot be left alone to work on their own independently. We will try again tomorrow. Opinion letters were due today.
ELA: we will continue with Shadows. Students will also be asked to find figures of speech within the chapters. More to come tomorrow.
MATH: we finish unit 5 tomorrow and the test is Friday. All questions should be asked before then to ensure complete comprehension.
SCIENCE: our experiments are moving towards flight now and how the air pressure affects objects in movement.
SOCIAL: Students will hopefully receive their Iroquois test back tomorrow. We have Tpet coming in for the afternoon Tuesday. After that we will look at the municipal government.
ART: we began a new project on proportions. All students should have an image by next class.
RELIGION: students are collecting gently used blankets, towels and stuffies. We wrote our lenten promises today and we will begin preparing for Lent.
HEALTH: due tomorrow...emotions booklet and how our bodies react when we feel different emotions.
This week:
Students are selling hot chocolat at the 1st recess for 50ȼ a cup and the money goes towards Farewell. Students on that committee should bring their milk in asap.
Thursday is Pink shirt and Positive Post-it note day
Phys Ed will be in the Learning commons or, weather dependant, outside. Let's pray for the latter.
Mardi Gras is this Friday...tickets should be purchased by tomorrow to be safe.

I hope everyone had a great long weekend and that you were able to spend time with family. we are halfway through the year and it's time to buckle down!
MATH: finishing the unit with a look at percentages and how they relate to fractions. Test coming up soon.
SCIENCE: we will move away from the properties of air and get into the Benouilli principle and how flight takes shape. I will be picking up experiment booklets this Friday.
SOCIAL: test on Iroquois Confederacy is this Thursday. We will begin municipal government. Next Tuesday Feb 26th, we will be having an afternoon presentation on the Iroquois put on by Tpet. I will need 2 volunteers from 1-3pm. If you are available, please email asap.
FLA: doing some more homophones and then moving onto a writing prompt and poetry.
ELA: finished poetry and students will need to complete their writing prompt by Friday. Next up is another novel study called "Shadows of Disaster".
RELIGION: we will be moving into Lent very soon. Before that students are putting together some care packages to send to organizations so that we can change the world. Students will be collecting gently used blankets and towels or writing cards to people in assisted living to show that we care. If you can help out at all, please donate.
ART: we will be using math in art and "blowing up" or enlarging a picture.
This week: Spirit and pizza day Thursday. Our themes is decades and we are the future...futuristic. Bring on the aluminum foil! Mme Jane is working hard to have the kinders win the trophy so let's burst her bubble!!

This week in Learning:
FLA: we will begin learning how to write an opinion letter as this is part of the PAT writing portion of the exam in May. It is called functional writing and it is useful in everyday situations. FLA reading comprehensions go home today. Please sign and return. More reading in French is needed.
ELA: this week we perform our poems/songs, beginning tomorrow. All student should be ready to present. There is a poetry quiz on Friday (sorry Harry...it's your birthday, but I had to choose a date!)
MATH: we continue with fractions and how to compare them if they are mixed or have different denominators. Students should be reviewing every night and know the fraction vocab by now.
SCIENCE: we continue with experiments on pressure. All experiment reports should be complete as I will be picking them up at the end of this month. Students are responsible for getting caught up, should they be away.
SOCIAL: we will present our personal Wampums this week and then look at how the Iroquois made decisions. Current event questions will be placed on the BLOG and if students wish to go above and beyond to improve their learning on politics, they can answer the question of the week by email. This month we will begin Local government and the question will reflect that.
RELIGION: We are finishing our study of the Beatitudes with a small classroom liturgy. We also spoke of ways to be the "Light of the World" and more details will be forthcoming.
HEALTH: emotions...Mr. Potato Head is due at the end of this week.
CTF: we only have 4 classes to work on projects until we begin selling. 2 companies had nothing to do today.
ART: next sketchbook assignment is texture.
Important this week:
We will most likely have indoor recess all week, but be prepared in case we go outside as well.
Thursday we go to MdH. I have not heard from anyone who can come with us. I sent an email last week and am looking for 2 volunteers from 9-1h30. Please email me asap.
