This week in Mme Colette's class:
Thank you all for coming to Parent-Teacher conferences. It was great to see you all again. I hope that Jeremy and Neomie are feeling better.
French vocabulary this week: Noel
Science: construction d'un meuble (piece of furniture with tinfoil)
Etudes Sociales: Moi dans ma ville
Math: addition and beginning of subtraction, plus an evaluation on number sense (we have done a lot of practice in class so no worries)
Religion: Beginning of Advent and adopting a family
The biggest thing is the Christmas concert which is already next week. Please help by having your child practice the song a few times per night. Link on previous blog.

Nous commençons les sons!
In French we are learning the sound "CH", which in French sounds like the "SH" sound in English. Here are a few words to practice with your child:
chapeau chemise chandail roche
riche poche chemin pêche
A reminder that students should be reading each night, returning and exchanging their books in the morning. I have heard everyone read to date and some are making progress. Woohoo!
Welcome to the land of lost mittens...otherwise known as
Ecole St Luke! I am trying to train the children to put their mitts and tuques in their coat sleeve after recesses to avoid losing them. Please remind them of this or use safety pins to keep them attached. With the cold weather coming and staying, we don't want frozen fingers.
Here is a link to the song we will be singing for the Christmas concert:

If your child can practice every once in a while, it would be of great benefit. On the night of the concert pretend you've never heard it before!
And finally, if you are not planning on selling the West Jet tickets that were in the report cards, please return them asap as other children have expressed an interest in selling more. MERCI

Friday is dress as a teacher day. We would like to keep our
trophy for the class with the best spirit! Have fun!
Friday is also Library Day, please bring your books back.
And finally, today, we will be starting our At Home Reading
Program. It is expected that your child read at least 3 minutes
each night in French. Every morning they will be responsible for exchanging their book and returning it the next day. Reading is a
great way to improve your French abilities. Bon lecture!

We are working on vocabulary for clothing at this time in French. I have added the pictures and words so that you can help your child learn. In Social Studies we are talking about responsibilities, our own and those of others in the different groups we belong to. In Math, we continue to work with numbers to 20. Students should be able to say them forwards, backwards and know which # comes before or after another. Practice makes perfect!

At home reading will now be a big part of your child's learning. Have them sound out syllables to then make words. For listening to stories in French please visit the following website for good books. If a story has a speaker, it is able to be heard.
